Why RecoverFunds.ca exists, and what we stand for

RecoverFunds.ca is an independent Canadian registry of companies flagged by securities regulators. We are not a government body, not a law firm, and not affiliated with any regulator. Every warning published here traces back to a public alert from a Canadian or international regulator, and each article quotes that regulator directly rather than paraphrasing it.

Reporting a case costs nothing and there is no upfront fee. We never ask for a crypto recovery phrase or private key, and we do not claim that recovery is guaranteed or likely — confirmed blockchain transfers cannot be reversed. Anyone charging you in advance to recover lost funds is running a second scam.

Crypto recovery in Canada: what actually works

Most people arrive here after a withdrawal has been blocked, an account manager has gone quiet, or a platform has simply vanished. The first question is always the same, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch: can the money be recovered?

Sometimes. It depends far less on who you hire than on how you paid and how fast you move. Card payments are the most recoverable, because the card networks have a chargeback process that generally runs 120 days from the transaction. Bank wires can occasionally be recalled, but only while the funds are still sitting in the receiving account, which can mean hours. Crypto bought through a regulated Canadian exchange can sometimes be frozen if it has not yet been moved on and the destination address is flagged quickly.

What does not work is reversing the blockchain. A confirmed transfer cannot be undone by us, by a regulator, by the police, or by any private company, however it describes itself. Any service claiming otherwise is telling you something that is not technically possible.

How to recover lost crypto after a scam, in order

The sequence matters more than the speed of any single step, because the actions that can actually return money are the ones that expire.

  1. Stop paying. Every fee demanded after a blocked withdrawal — tax, compliance, insurance, account upgrade, liquidity top-up — is part of the same fraud. Regulators see fees demanded after the fact routinely exceed the original deposit.
  2. Contact your bank, card issuer or exchange today. This is the only step where hours change the outcome. Ask for the fraud department, not the branch.
  3. Preserve the evidence before it disappears. Screenshots of the dashboard and the withdrawal screen, every transaction ID and wallet address, exported chat logs, and the names and numbers used by whoever contacted you.
  4. Report it. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre on 1-888-495-8501, the securities regulator for the province you live in, and your local police for a file number. Each does a different job.

The full process, with contacts for every province, is here.

Beware the second scam

People who have just lost money to an investment scam are the most heavily targeted group there is, because a list of confirmed victims is worth more to a fraudster than any other list.

Anyone who contacts you offering to recover your funds for an upfront fee is running a second scam. The tells are consistent: they approached you, they want a retainer or a "legal deposit" or a "release payment" before anything happens, they guarantee a result or quote a percentage, and they claim they can reverse blockchain transactions. Often it is the original operation returning under a new name.

No legitimate organisation asks for your wallet recovery phrase or private keys. Not a regulator, not the police, and not us — RecoverFunds.ca will never ask for a recovery phrase, a private key, or remote access to your device, and reporting a case here is free with no percentage taken from anything recovered.

What Canadians ask us

Is RecoverFunds.ca affiliated with any government?

No. RecoverFunds.ca is an independent platform. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government agency, regulatory body, or law enforcement organization in Canada or anywhere else.

How do you decide which companies to list?

Every article is based on a publicly issued warning from a Canadian or international financial regulator, or on documented victim reports corroborated by independent research. We do not make unsupported allegations.

I think I've been scammed. What should I do?

Stop sending money immediately. Document everything, screenshots, chat logs, transaction records. Contact your bank's fraud line. Then report to us, we'll guide you to the right provincial regulator and federal agencies in the correct sequence.

Can I report a company not listed here?

Yes. Use the Report form. Every submission is reviewed by a team member. If corroborated, we may publish a warning article. Your report may protect the next potential victim.

How do I recover lost crypto in Canada?

Whether anything comes back depends far more on how you paid than on who you contact, and speed matters more than anything else. Contact your bank, card issuer or crypto exchange the same day: card payments can often be charged back within 120 days, wires can sometimes be recalled if the receiving account has not been emptied, and an exchange can freeze crypto that has not yet moved on. After that, report to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre on 1-888-495-8501, to the securities regulator for your province, and to your local police. Confirmed blockchain transfers cannot be reversed by anyone, so be very careful of any service that says otherwise.

Can you recover crypto from a scam?

Sometimes, and rarely in the way people hope. Recovery happens through payment reversal — a chargeback, a recalled wire, an exchange freezing funds still sitting in an account it controls — or occasionally through enforcement action years later. It does not happen by reversing a blockchain transaction, because that is not something any company, regulator or police force can do. We will tell you honestly which of those routes is still open in your case rather than encourage you to hope.

Do you charge a fee for crypto recovery?

No. Reporting a case to RecoverFunds.ca is free, there is no percentage taken from anything recovered, and there is no upfront fee of any kind. This matters beyond our own pricing: anyone who contacts you offering to recover your funds for a fee paid in advance is running a second scam, and they work from lists of people already known to have lost money. No legitimate organisation will ever ask you for your wallet recovery phrase or private keys, and we never will.

What is a recovery room scam?

It is a second fraud aimed at people who have already lost money once. Someone contacts you, often within weeks of the original loss, claiming they can retrieve your funds — sometimes presenting themselves as lawyers, blockchain investigators, or as working alongside a regulator. They ask for a retainer, a legal deposit, a tax, or a release payment before anything happens, and nothing ever does. Frequently it is the original operation coming back under a new name.

How long do I have to act after an investment scam?

The steps most likely to return money are the ones with deadlines. Card chargebacks generally allow 120 days from the transaction and sometimes longer. Wire recalls depend on the funds still being in the receiving account, which can mean hours rather than days. Exchange freezes depend on the crypto not having moved on. Regulator and police reports have no deadline and are worth filing regardless of how much time has passed, but they are not the part of the process that reverses a payment.
